My name is Wilson Douce. For the last 27 years, I have been involved in education. I began in my home country: in 1991, I graduated from the Normal School (Teachers’ Training School) in Foreign Language Instruction (English, Spanish, and French) and in my native language, Haitian Creole. Then, after receiving a certification and diploma (Bachelor’s) from the State University of Haiti in Foreign Language Instruction, I entered the Department of Linguistics, where I completed four years of coursework (a second Bachelor’s). In 1996, I entered Stony Brook University in New York, USA, and completed my MATESOL in 1998. In 2008, I returned for a second Master’s in Liberal Arts and an Advanced Graduate Certificate in Educational Computing. Later, I completed a third Master’s in Hispanic Language and Literature and attained an Advanced Graduate Certificate in Educational Leadership. I earned my doctorate in Applied Linguistics from Aston University, UK, in 2023.<\/p>

For seven years, I worked in Haiti as a successful EFL and Spanish teacher in seven different public and private high schools and, for one year, as a French literature teacher. I taught Haitian Creole in many international institutions, such as the United Peace Corps, United Nations, Organization of American States (OAS), Red Cross, Doctors Without Borders, and many more. Moreover, for three years, I worked as an Assistant Director at a private religious school (Institution Emmanuel) and served as the Director of their evening literacy program. I worked as a Haitian Creole translation consultant for BOCES and New York State Education Department (NYSED) from 2000-2003. Throughout my years as a language professional, and especially as I taught Haitian Creole to United Peace Corps and United Nations volunteers, I recognized a gap in the availability of short texts and appropriate targeted language activities materials in all four language skills. This is when the idea for this book (Lekti Krey\u00f2l<\/strong>) was born, an idea that has been in the making for at least twenty-seven years. In a notebook, I made some preliminary notes, notes which, later, in the early 90s, I entered into a computer. The book has a total of twenty-five texts, covering twenty-five different topics. Each chapter starts with a short text, followed by a mini dialogue and activities on writing, reading comprehension, and Haitian Creole sounds practice. The Student\u2019s Book concludes with a five-language glossary that includes Haitian Creole, English, French, Spanish, and German. It has a corresponding Teacher\u2019s Book, where you will find answer keys to the activities in the Student\u2019s Book. To offer extended practice in all aspects of Haitian Creole, there are three Activity Books spread across three levels, for beginning, intermediate, and advanced Haitian Creole students to extensively practice the language. The set includes an Assessment Book that measures students\u2019 degree of learning of the Student\u2019s Book; this Assesssment Book is subdivided into five sections, with each section covering five chapters. At the completion of the entire program, a Haitian Creole learner is given a certificate of successful completion of this reading-based coursework. For individuals and institutions who are shifting from paper to online learning, there is good news. The entire program is available online<\/strong>. Je m’appelle Wilson Douce. Je suis impliqu\u00e9 dans l’\u00e9ducation depuis 27 ans. Tout au long de mes ann\u00e9es en tant que professionnel de la langue, alors que j’enseignais le cr\u00e9ole ha\u00eftien aux volontaires de United Peace Corps et des Nations Unies, j’ai remarqu\u00e9 un cruel manque de textes cours et de mat\u00e9riels d’activit\u00e9s linguistiques cibl\u00e9es appropri\u00e9s aux quatre comp\u00e9tences linguistiques. C’est alors qu’est n\u00e9e cette id\u00e9e du livre (Lekti Krey\u00f2l<\/strong>); id\u00e9e en gestation depuis au moins 27 ans. J’ai commenc\u00e9 le livre dans un cahier o\u00f9 les notes avaient heureusement \u00e9t\u00e9 saisies dans un ordinateur au d\u00e9but des ann\u00e9es 90. Le livre contient un total de 25 textes couvrant 25 sujets diff\u00e9rents. Chaque chapitre commence par un texte court, suivi d’un mini dialogue et de diverses activit\u00e9s de compr\u00e9hension de lecture, de pratique des sons du cr\u00e9ole ha\u00eftien et d’activit\u00e9s d’\u00e9criture. Le livre de l’\u00e9tudiant se termine par un glossaire en 5 langues comprenant respectivement le cr\u00e9ole ha\u00eftien, l’anglais, le fran\u00e7ais, l’espagnol et l’allemand. Pour offrir une pratique \u00e9tendue dans tous les aspects du cr\u00e9ole ha\u00eftien, le livre de l’\u00e9tudiant a un livre de l’enseignant correspondant avec les corrig\u00e9s du livre de l’\u00e9tudiant. Il existe \u00e9galement trois cahiers d’activit\u00e9s r\u00e9partis sur trois niveaux pour que les \u00e9tudiants en cr\u00e9ole ha\u00eftien d\u00e9butants, interm\u00e9diaires et avanc\u00e9s puissent pratiquer la langue de mani\u00e8re approfondie. L’ensemble comprend un livre d’\u00e9valuation qui mesure l’apprentissage du contenu linguistique du livre de l’\u00e9tudiant. L’\u00e9valuation est subdivis\u00e9e en cinq sections et chaque section couvre cinq chapitres. \u00c0 la fin de l’ensemble du programme, un apprenant en cr\u00e9ole ha\u00eftien re\u00e7oit un certificat de r\u00e9ussite de ce cours bas\u00e9 sur la lecture. A lo largo de mis a\u00f1os como profesional del idioma, especialmente cuando ense\u00f1aba criollo haitiano a voluntarios del United Peace Corps y de las Naciones Unidas, not\u00e9 la falta de textos breves y de materiales de actividades espec\u00edficas en las cuatro habilidades ling\u00fc\u00edsticas. Fue entonces cuando naci\u00f3 la idea del libro Lekti Krey\u00f2l<\/strong>. La idea se ha estado gestando durante al menos 27 a\u00f1os. Comenc\u00e9 el libro en un cuaderno y luego, a principios de los 90, empec\u00e9 a ingresar las notas en la computadora.<\/p>

El libro tiene un total de 25 textos que cubren 25 temas diferentes. Mein Name ist Wilson Douce. Ich besch\u00e4ftige mich seit 27 Jahren mit Bildung. Ausgehend von meinem Heimatland habe ich 1991 an der Normal School (Lehramtsschule) den Fremdsprachenunterricht (Englisch, Spanisch, Franz\u00f6sisch) und in meiner Muttersprache Haitianisch-Kreolisch abgeschlossen. Nachdem ich ein Zertifikat und ein Diplom (Bachelor) von der State University of Haiti im Fremdsprachenunterricht erhalten hatte, trat ich dann in die Fakult\u00e4t f\u00fcr Linguistik ein, wo ich vier Jahre Studienarbeit absolvierte (ein zweiter Bachelor). Ich habe 1996 an der Stony Brook University in New York, USA, studiert und mein MATESOL 1998 abgeschlossen. 2008 kehrte ich f\u00fcr einen zweiten Master in Geisteswissenschaften und ein Advanced Graduate Certificate in Educational Computing zur\u00fcck. Sp\u00e4ter absolvierte ich einen dritten Master in hispanischer Sprache und Literatur und ein weiteres Advanced Graduate Certificate in Educational Leadership. Ich habe 2023 an der Aston University in Gro\u00dfbritannien in Angewandter Linguistik promoviert.<\/p>

Ich habe sieben Jahre in Haiti als EFL- und Spanischlehrer an sieben verschiedenen \u00f6ffentlichen und privaten Gymnasien und ein Jahr als Franz\u00f6sischlehrer gearbeitet. Ich habe vielen internationalen Institutionen haitianisches Kreolisch beigebracht, darunter das United Peace Corps, die Vereinten Nationen, die Organisation Amerikanischer Staaten (OAS), das Rote Kreuz, \u00c4rzte ohne Grenzen und viele mehr. W\u00e4hrend meiner Jahre als Sprachprofi, insbesondere als ich Haitianisches Kreol f\u00fcr das United Peace Corps und Freiwillige der Vereinten Nationen unterrichtete, bemerkte ich einen Mangel an kurzen Texten und geeigneten Materialien f\u00fcr gezielte Sprachaktivit\u00e4ten in allen vier Sprachkenntnissen. Dies war die Geburtsstunde dieser Buchidee (Lekti Krey\u00f2l<\/strong>). Die Idee ist seit mindestens 27 Jahren im Entstehen. Ich begann das Buch in einem Notizbuch, dessen Aufzeichungen zum Gl\u00fcck Anfang der 90er Jahre in einen Computer \u00fcbertragen wurden. Das Buch enth\u00e4lt insgesamt 25 Texte zu 25 verschiedenen Themen. Jedes Kapitel beginnt mit einem kurzen Text, gefolgt von einem Minidialog und verschiedenen Leseverst\u00e4ndnissen, haitianischen kreolischen Kl\u00e4ngen und Schreibaktivit\u00e4ten. Das Sch\u00fclerbuch wird mit einem 5-sprachigen Glossar abgeschlossen, das haitianisches Kreolisch, Englisch, Franz\u00f6sisch, Spanisch und Deutsch umfasst. Um eine erweiterte Praxis in allen Aspekten des Haitianischen Kreols anzubieten, enth\u00e4lt das Sch\u00fclerbuch ein entsprechendes Lehrerbuch mit den Antwortschl\u00fcsseln f\u00fcr das Sch\u00fclerbuch. Es gibt auch drei Aktivit\u00e4tsb\u00fccher, die auf drei Niveaus verteilt sind, f\u00fcr Anf\u00e4nger, Mittelstufe und Fortgeschrittene, die die Sprache des Haitianischen Kreols ausgiebig \u00fcben k\u00f6nnen.
